BACK TO THE NATURE
14.05.2013

Under the motto LIVING GREEN-BACK TO THE NATURE, there was a press conference held at Hotel “Tami Residence” In Nis, and a first workshop in the framework of the project LIVING GREEN. This project was funded from the IPA CBC Bulgaria-Serbia Program, and presidents from municipalities of Ihtiman and Palilula, Kaloyan Iliev Angelov and Boban Dzunic spoke about project activities during press conference. Mr Atanas Krstin, Consul of Consulate General of the Republic of Bulgaria in Nis spoke about the importance of regional cooperation, especially local governments and civil society in Serbia and Bulgaria.

President Dzunic said that this is a joint project of two municipalities in protecting the environment and raising awareness of our fellow citizens to protect the environment. -This project targets the population of students and pupils under the 25 years of age. We believe that this generation of our young citizens is willing to do something more to change the current practice of each individual to the living environment. We have a big problem with illegal dumps in Palilula. The resources that our municipalities received from the EU-IPA funds in the amount of 162,000 euros will be focused on prevention activities. We estimate that this activity can save around € 70,000 in the city budget to the maintenance items. If we clean at least one wild dump, and we know that there are about thirty in our territory, we will succeed- said president Dzunic.

This project is important for our municipality Ichtiman, which has about 20,000 inhabitants and a very modest budget -stressed Kaloyan Iliev Angelov,  Mayor of Ihtiman. -The plan is approved by the EU to do the reconstruction of our city stadium and remove any illegal dumping-.
Atanas Krstin, General Consul of Consulate General of the Republic of Bulgaria in Nis, welcomed the cooperation of municipalities Palilula and Ihtiman. -Municipality of  Palilula is having very good cooperation with several municipalities in the Republic of Bulgaria. This is a good example. I hope it will open up new possibilities of cooperation for the improvement of project activities in the future-.  Project teams of two municipalities, as well as representatives of the Council, the Assembly and the Board of Palilula, took part in the work of the first workshop of this project. Workshop and lecture BACK TO THE NATURE-LIVING GREEN has been moderated by Jelena Stamenkovic-Fehervari. This project of the Municipality of Palilula will be supported by ECOpolis-media environmental network in Serbia.
